Throughout our lifetimes, moles, skin spots, and lesions undergo natural changes, making it challenging to distinguish between benign and potentially malignant conditions. Detecting signs of skin cancer and melanoma can be subtle, underscoring the importance of consulting a doctor with the requisite training and experience for an accurate diagnosis.

Swift identification and treatment of skin cancer are pivotal for implementing an effective treatment and management plan, leading to positive patient outcomes. If you have concerns about any spots or lesions, it’s crucial not to delay booking an appointment. The sooner treatment is initiated, the sooner you can attain peace of mind regarding your skin health.

Whats involved with a Mole Check?

Establishing a routine for regular mole or skin checks is a simple yet effective habit that can aid in the early diagnosis of potentially dangerous skin spots. Our mole checks are designed to be quick and efficient, typically taking under 15 minutes.

The examination begins with a skin cancer doctor using a magnifying lamp to inspect your skin, identifying areas of interest. Subsequently, a dermatoscope or, if needed, computerised dermatoscopy is employed for a thorough examination to detect early signs of cancer.

For individuals at high risk of skin cancer—such as those with fair skin, a family history of skin cancers, or numerous moles—total body photography may be recommended. During the session, simple treatments can often be performed, while more complex surgical excisions will be scheduled for a separate appointment.

Most checks are conducted with underwear on, as skin cancer is uncommon in areas like the breasts, genitals, and buttocks. However, it’s important to note that skin cancer can occur in these areas, and if you have a suspicious-looking mole, you can request its examination as part of your overall skin check.
